Nashville Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault will be out day-to-day with a lower-body injury, as was reported Friday.

Marchessault, 34, exited Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in the second period.

The Cap-Rouge, Quebec native has already missed five games this season due to lower-body injuries. It’s unclear if this latest injury is at all related to those previous issues.

In 28 games played this season, Marchessault has seven goals and three assists for 10 points. He is in the second season of a five-year, $27.5 milliion deal with Nashville. Last season, he put up 21 goals and 35 assists for 56 points in 78 games.

The 5’9″ forward went undrafted by the NHL, so following his four-year career with the Quebec Ramparts of the QMJHL, he signed a contract with the Connecticut Whale (later re-named the Hartford Wolf Pack), the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, in June of 2011.

After one season with Connecticut, Marchessault signed his first NHL contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, though he would mainly play for the Springfield Falcons, who were the Blue Jackets’ AHL affiliate at the time.

During his second season in Columbus’ organization, he was traded along with Dalton Smith to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Dana Tyrell and Matt Taormina. Marchessault spent the next two-plus seasons in Tampa Bay’s organization, and got his first extended NHL opportunity in 2015-16, when he played 45 games for the Lightning.

Ahead of the 2016-17 season, he signed as a free agent with the Florida Panthers. That year, he broke out with a 30-goal, 51-point season. In June of 2017, Marchessault got selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in their expansion draft, and went on to have his greatest team and individual success with Vegas. Marchessault made two Stanley Cup Finals with the Golden Knights, and won the Conne Smythe Trophy for post-season MVP when Vegas won the Cup in 2023.
