On Monday, the Nashville Predators announced they have re-signed forward Jusso Parssinen to a one-year, one-way contract. The deal will carry a $775,000 cap hit for the 2024-25 season.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the signing.

Parssinen was a restricted free agent at the conclusion of his three-year, entry-level contract. The Finn’s deal had an AAV of $925,000 over that span, with an annual minor-league salary of $70,000.

The 23-year-old was originally taken in the seventh round, 210th overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft. Parssinen came to North America in 2022, joining the Predators’ American Hockey League affiliate for the Calder Cup Playoffs. Over the past two seasons, he has gone back and forth between Nashville and Milwaukee and has shown he can make an impact at both levels.

Last season with the Preds, Parssinen scored eight goals and 12 points in 44 games, including making his first Stanley Cup Playoff appearance in the team’s opening-round loss to the Vancouver Canucks. His regular-season production was down from his rookie campaign in 2022-23, where he posted 25 points in 45 games.

In an elevated role with the Admirals in 2023-24, Parssinen became one of the most effective playmakers on a solid roster. He scored seven goals and 18 assists in 36 games, helping Milwaukee clinch the AHL’s Central Division title. Parssinen also registered eight assists and nine points in 14 playoff games as the team advanced to the Western Conference Final.

However, with signing a one-way contract, the plan seems to be that Parssinen will not be heading back to the AHL without having to clear waivers first. With the signing, Nashville has 43 of a possible 50 players signed to NHL contracts for next season. According to CapWages, the Preds have less than $2.5 million in cap space.

In 89 NHL appearances, Parssinen has notched 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points.
