The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced Saturday that Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron has been fined $2,000 for goalie interference on Vancouver Canucks netminder Casey DeSmith during Friday night’s 2-1 loss to Vancouver.

The incident occurred when DeSmith went behind his net to play the puck and a steamrolling McCarron came flying around the net running into DeSmith, and knocking him over. In the ensuing scrum, it was Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek who went after McCarron. DeSmith was able to get up on his own accord and finished the game, securing the win.

It was the second incident of the night that could have caused DOPS to get involved, Canucks forward Dakota Joshua threw a huge hit on Predators defenseman Spencer Stastney. Joshua was assessed a five-minute major but the call was reduced to two minutes upon further review. Stastney left the game with an upper-body injury and did not return, he has been ruled out week-to-week.

McCarron registered a career-high 12 goals and 22 points in 70 games with the Predators and racked up 100 penalty minutes. He has been held pointless through three Stanley Cup Playoff games. The 29-year-old was fined $2000 in March for unsportsmanlike conduct against the Minnesota Wild.

Vancouver took a 2-1 series lead over Nashville in game 3 and looks ahead to the game on Sunday at Bridgestone Arena.
