Once again, one of the best players in the NHL is Nathan MacKinnon, and there aren’t many signs of him slowing down.

The Colorado Avalanche star is off to a torrid start this season, helping his team sit at the top of the league standings thanks to his astronomical production in the opening months of the campaign.

Through 29 games this season, the 30-year-old has scored 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points, notching 12 points over the past seven games. He currently leads the league in scoring, six points clear of San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini, and is first in the NHL in goals as well. Thanks to his performance, the Avs currently hold the best record in the league, and it looks like nothing is holding the team back from continuing its early-season dominance.

On Monday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Jessie Montano of Guerrilla Sports joined Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton to talk about the team’s hot start.

Jesse Montano: I was just joking on my pod last week – I’m running out of adjectives for him. You know, it seems like every season he just takes it to another level, and right when you think he can’t possibly have another level, he does what he did in New York a couple of afternoons ago. This is something special we’re seeing from Nate this season. He showed up to camp this [year]…I mean, he’s an intense guy to begin with, but he showed up with just a different intensity. A different sense of determination than I’ve ever seen in almost 10 years covering him. I think that loss to Dallas really stung him, and he looks like he is just on a mission in a different way than even we’ve ever seen him. He’s just on another level right now.
