Nathan MacKinnon bloodied in fight with Roope Hintz

Nathan MacKinnon can score goals. He can also throw punches.

The NHL’s reigning Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner fought Roope Hintz during Tuesday night’s game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars.

Midway through the second period, the two players battled in the Avalanche’s zone as MacKinnon delivered cross-checks to Hintz. After the Stars’ forward took a swipe of his own, the two dropped their gloves and started to throw punches.

Both players delivered shots, but Hintz landed three hard rights, including one that hit MacKinnon square on the nose. The Colorado forward was covered in blood and had to go to the locker room to get stitched up.

The Avalanche won 3-2. MacKinnon recorded two assists while Hintz had a goal.

The scrap was MacKinnon’s second fighting major in two weeks. In the Avalanche’s regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Kings, the star forward squared up with Brandt Clarke.

MacKinnon has five goals and seven assists for 12 points and 12 penalty minutes in six games in 2025-26. Now in his 14th NHL campaign, MacKinnon has 425 goals and 729 assists for 1,154 points in 956 regular-season games.

In 108 playoff games, he’s posted 62 goals and 78 assists for 140 points. He helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 2022, where he scored 13 goals and added 11 assists for 24 points that spring.

The Halifax native has won both the Hart Trophy and the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy.

As for Hintz, he has two goals and two assists for four points in six games. In nine NHL seasons, he has 192 goals and 233 assists for 425 points in 527 career regular-season games.

In 95 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has 27 goals and 42 assists for 69 points.
