Devils announce “Jersey” jersey goodbye tour; will not return for 2026-27

The New Jersey Devils announced on Monday that the 2025-2026 season will mark the retirement of their black alternate “Jersey” jersey.
One of the most polarizing looks in the NHL, the alternate debuted in 2021 and was the franchise’s first ever full-time alternate jersey.
With a black base and white stripes on the shoulders and arms, the main feature of the seater was the cursive script “Jersey” as the center crest in white with a red shadow. While of course serving as a nod to to the team’s home state, the concept was beloved by many for its humor while also being mocked by others for how literal the idea was.
The team leaned fully into the hilarity for marketing purposes, even selling black hats that had a “Hat” word mark in the same script font.
If you’re looking to see the uniforms in game action, the following games will comprise your last opportunity to do so:
- November 24 vs. Detroit
- November 26 vs. St. Louis
- December 21 vs. Buffalo
- December 27 vs. Washington
- January 14 vs. Seattle
- January 17 vs. Carolina
- February 3 vs. Columbus
- February 5 vs. New York Islanders
- March 12 vs. Calgary
- March 14 vs. Los Angeles
- April 12 vs. Ottawa
If the Devils are going to release a new full-time alternate jersey for the 2026-2027 season, they have a few intriguing options.
The team could bring back the red-and-green look that served as the main uniform from 1982 through 1992, which was referenced in a heritage jersey in 2018-2019 as well as the clubs’ first Reverse Retro Jersey in 2020-2021.
The second Reverse Retro collaboration with Adidas featured the current “NJ” logo crest on a white sweater with red, blue and yellow accents that paid homage to the franchise’s roots as the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Scouts.
