Devils unveil ‘Butter Bench’ Thanksgiving-themed giveaway item

What’s your favorite part of Thanksgiving? Is it getting together with the family? Watching endless football? Eating unreasonable amounts of stuffing (or dressing, for you cheaters)? Or is it trying not to break the fine dishes your grandparents lug out once a year?
Well, the New Jersey Devils are giving you an opportunity to smash a new dish after your team fails to convert on 4th down this holiday season (I’m a Detroit Lions fan; I have trauma). When the team hosts the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Prudential Center on Monday, Nov. 23, the first 9,000 fans inside the arena will receive the “Devils Butter Bench.” Rather than looking for a small, white dish with a stick of lard that has been there since who-knows-when, face-stuffers can easily pick out the item that legitimately looks like a hockey bench, with the Devils logo and name on it. On top of that, there’s a little hockey stick that people can use to scoop the butter, rather than that plastic-handled knife you can’t remember the last time it was washed, or any other utensil that Jack Hughes probably shouldn’t be around anymore.
The Devils aren’t the first team to trek out a unique, hockey-inspired dishware for Thanksgiving. The Detroit Red Wings famously introduced the Zamboni gravy boat in November 2023, with teams such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators having since followed suit. However, New Jersey found a way to place itself at the end of the table, and exactly where Uncle Pete will definitely knock it off with his elbow on Turkey Day.
Nevertheless, the Devils are doing their part to get into the holiday mood this year, giving fans another reason to come see their favorite team in action. Now, they can only hope the butter doesn’t spill onto the ice, and New Jersey doesn’t slip and slide down the Metropolitan Division once again.
