The New Jersey Devils should expect to be without Evgenii Dadonov in the lineup, as head coach Sheldon Keefe announced on Wednesday that the winger won’t be available “for a period of time” due to an undisclosed injury.

Dadonov sustained the injury during the Devils’ 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. The cause of the injury is not known, and it appears that he played through the injury, as he had taken shifts as late as the final four minutes of the game. The team didn’t announce the injury during the game, but Keefe did mention it on Tuesday.

Keefe mentioned that the team doesn’t know Dadonov’s exact timeline, and he mentioned that they are waiting on the results of certain tests. More updates on the injury and Dadonov’s timeline for return should be expected when the Devils get more information.

Dadonov had already missed 17 games this season due to a hand injury, and was playing in only his fourth game back in the lineup. He’s struggled even in the time that he’s been healthy, as he has been held without a point in five games.

At this point in time, it’s not known who will replace Dadonov in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the St. Louis Blues. Juho Lammikko was the team’s lone forward healthy scratch in Monday’s win, and with no other transactions being made between the games, he should be expected to draw into the lineup unless another player is ready to return from an injury. Lammikko has been held pointless in 10 games this season.

The Devils will look to build off of their win over the Red Wings when they host the Blues on Wednesday at 7 p.m. EST. New Jersey currently sits in second place in the Metropolitan Division with a 14-7-1 record.
