Devils’ Jack Hughes: ‘I’d love to play with Quinn at some point’

Will the brothers Hughes ever unite? One of them hopes so.
On Tuesday, New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes spoke to reporters during the NHL Player Media Tour in Las Vegas. One of the more prominent questions was regarding his brother, Quinn, and his future with the Vancouver Canucks.
Jack simply smiled, but was very candid about his desire to get a chance to play with his older brother.
I asked Jack Hughes about whether he talks to his brother Quinn about his future and possibly playing together.
“This is the headline question, you know?,’’ Jack smiled back.
“Honestly, I'm not afraid to say it. Yeah, I would love for Quinn to — eventually I'd love to play…
“This is the headline question,” Jack said. “Honestly, I’m not afraid to say it. Yeah, I would love for Quinn to…eventually, I’d love to play with him. And whether that’s in New Jersey or at what time that takes, at some point, I want to play with Quinn. … They talk all day about it up in Vancouver. … I’d love to play with Quinn at some point.”
Jack didn’t mention anything about the possibility of Quinn, who has two more years on his current contract, coming to New Jersey to join him and his younger brother, Luke. Nor did he discuss the possibility of him and Luke going to Vancouver.
The topic of the Hughes’ coming together to form a brotherly trio on one NHL team was seemingly ignited after Canucks’ president Jim Rutherford’s comments after the 2024-25 season came to a close. He was asked about contract negotiations between Quinn and the Canucks, but Rutherford pointed out his captain’s desire to play alongside his brothers.
“It may not boil down to money with [Quinn],” Rutherford said. “He said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here.”
The three Hughes brothers have never had the chance to play on the same team. Quinn and Jack were on the American squad that took home the silver medal at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship, while Luke joined Jack on the Devils roster near the end of the 2022-23 season.
Quinn and Jack were supposed to be on the United States’ roster at the 4 Nations Face-Off, but an injury to Quinn forced him to be taken off the roster prior to the event. Quinn was going to try and join the team before the final against Canada, but ended up not playing.
