The New Jersey Devils announced on social media Monday that goaltender Jake Allen left their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with cramping and would not return.

Allen, 35, who made his 2025-26 regular-season debut on Monday, stopped 23 of 24 shots before leaving the game with injury.

The Devils defeated the Blue Jackets 3-2.

Last season, Allen posted a 13-16-1 record with a .908 save percentage (SV%) and a 2.59 goals against average (GAA) in 31 games with the Devils. In 12 NHL seasons, he’s recorded a 208-184-43 record with a .908 SV% and 2.75 GAA in 460 regular-season games with the Devils, Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues.

Allen, a 2008 second-round pick for the Blues, has also posted a 11-12 record with a .924 SV% and 2.06 GAA in 28 playoff games. He won a Stanley Cup championship with the Blues in 2019.

He also spent parts of four seasons in the AHL, recording an 84-74-10 record with a .917 SV% and 2.53 GAA in 172 career games with the Chicago Wolves and Peoria Riverman. In 12 Calder Cup Playoff games, he also had a 3-9 record with an .882 SV% and 3.43 GAA.

Before turning professional, Allen, a Fredericton, N.B., native, posted a 66-44-7 record with a .914 SV% and 2.68 GAA in 128 career regular-season games with the St. John’s Fog Devils, Montreal Juniors and Drummondville Voltigeurs. He was the top QMJHL goaltender of the year in 2009-10.

Internationally, Allen represented Canada on a number of occasions, including the 2010 World Junior Championship, earning a silver medal, as well as the World Under-18 Championships, where he won a gold medal and was named both the tournament’s top goaltender and most valuable player.

The Devils are 2-1-0 in three games through the 2025-26 season.
