New Jersey Devils sign Jesper Boqvist to one-year contract extension

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Jesper Boqvist to a one-year contract extension, the club announced Friday afternoon.
Boqvist, 23, elected to accept his qualifying offer, a one-year, two-way deal carrying an NHL cap hit of $874,125. The contract is worth $70,000 in the American Hockey League.
The Devils originally selected Boqvist in the second round (No. 36 overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft. The 6’0″, 180-pound center scored 10 goals and 23 points in 56 games during the 2021–22 regular season.

With Boqvist signed, the Devils now only have four restricted free agent forwards left to negotiate with this summer: Jesper Bratt, Miles Wood, Fabian Zetterlund, and Tyce Thompson.
In 119 career games with the Devils over parts of three regular seasons, Boqvist has scored 18 goals and 34 points. He has yet to make his NHL playoff debut.
Boqvist’s younger brother, Adam, plays defense for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Both Boqvists were born in Falun, Sweden.
