Devils’ Stefan Noesen “expected to miss some time” with groin injury

The New Jersey Devils provided several injury updates on Thursday after their second day of training camp, the most notable being that winger Stefan Noesen is expected to miss some time due to a groin injury.
#NEWS: During today’s second training camp on-ice session, the #NJDevils provided the following updates:
Jacob Markstrom is not participating today due to personal/family reasons.
Shane Lechance and Lenni Hämeenaho came back from the Prospects Challenge with injuries the team…
According to the Devils, Noesen’s injury stems from a pre-existing one from the 2024-25 season. He only missed four games that year, two of them being rest games late in the season, so it was likely an injury that he played through at some point of the season and was hoping would heal during the offseason. However, he re-injured it late this summer, and is now expected to be out, although the timeline for return is vague at this point in time.
Noesen is coming off of a breakout season with the Devils, as he had 22 goals and 19 assists for 41 points in 78 games in 2024-25. He also had one goal and one assists for two points in five playoff games.
As far as the NHL roster goes, goaltender Jacob Markstrom didn’t participate in sessions today, but the Devils confirmed that it was due to a family or personal matter, and was not injury related.
Markstrom had a 26-16-6 record, a .900 save percentage, four shutouts and a -6.71 5v5 goals saved above expected in 49 games, along with a 1-3-1 record, a .911 SV% and a 5.35 5v5 GSAx in five playoff games.
The Devils also confirmed that after undergoing knee surgery, Johnathan Kovacevic is out indefinitely, which was known back in May when the surgery happened.
Kovacevic had a career-best output in 2024-25, with one goal and 16 assists for 17 points in 81 games, and went pointless in three playoff games before his injury.
The final update the Devils provided was that wingers Shane LaChance and Lenni Hameenaho sustained injuries during the Prospect Challenge tournament. While both players are skating, the team is monitoring the injuries.
The Devils will kick off their preseason on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST when they host the New York Rangers.
