A veteran blueliner is moving across town, as the Blueshirts begin their “retool.”

On Monday evening, the New York Islanders acquired defenseman Carson Soucy from the New York Rangers in exchange for a third-round pick in 2026, according to ESPN’s Emil Kaplan.

Soucy comes to Long Island after spending less than a year in Manhattan. He was traded to the Rangers by the Vancouver Canucks last March, prior to the trade deadline, in exchange for a third-round pick in last year’s NHL Draft. Before the 2024-25 campaign ended, the Viking, Alta. native notched a goal and two assists for three points.

This season, Soucy has been a decent piece on a Rangers team that has struggled so much that general manager Chris Drury issued a letter saying the organization would be making some changes.

In 46 games thus far, Soucy has posted three goals and five assists for eight points, with his last point coming as a helper in an 8-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Jan. 14. He also has a plus/minus of +4 while averaging 17:13 of ice time per game.

The 31-year-old did sit out a trio of games earlier this month due to personal reasons.

Soucy is in the final season of his three-year contract that he signed with the Canucks on July 1, 2023. The deal has a cap hit of $3.25 million for this season, with a modified no-trade clause, and the player submitted a 12-team no-trade list.

The addition of Soucy will give the Isles a little more depth on the backend, especially with rearguard Ryan Pulock currently ailing from an upper-body injury. Along with fellow veterans Adam Pelech, Scott Mayfield and Tony DeAngelo, Soucy joins a D-corps that features rookie sensation Matthew Schaefer, who has sparked life in the organization, helping the team stay in contention for a playoff spot.

In 411 NHL regular-season games, Soucy has scored 30 goals and 65 assists for 95 points, with another nine points in 38 postseason contests.

The Islanders (27-19-5) are third in the Metropolitan Division, 10 points back of the Carolina Hurricanes for first. The Rangers (21-25-6) are last in the Eastern Conference, 14 points back of the second Wild Card spot.
