The New York Islanders announced on social media that forward Kyle Palmieri left Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers with a lower-body injury and would not return.

The injury occurred with a few minutes to go in the second period when Palmieri and Flyers’ defenseman Travis Sanheim got tangled up in the Philadelphia end. The Isles forward fell hard and got up slowly, making his way to the New York bench – but not before stealing the puck from Flyers’ defender Emil Andrae and feeding Anders Lee a pass, who dropped it for Emil Heineman to score his 10th of the season to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Islanders would come back to tie it 3-3 and force overtime, but after a scoreless fourth frame, Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecny would score in the shootout to give the Flyers a 4-3 win.

Palmieri has six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in 25 regular-season games with the Islanders in 2025-26. Now in his sixth season on Long Island, the 34-year-old forward has 93 goals and 97 assists for 190 points in 330 regular-season games.

In 16 total NHL seasons, Palmieri, a first-round pick for the Anaheim Ducks in 2009, has 276 goals and 269 assists for 545 points in 925 career regular-season games with the Islanders, Ducks and New Jersey Devils.

Palmieri also has 18 goals and 14 assists for 32 points in 68 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Smithtown, N.Y., native spent parts of four seasons in the American Hockey League, where he recorded 75 goals and 59 assists for 134 points in 148 regular-season games.
