Islanders’ Pierre Engvall out 2-3 weeks after offseason hip surgery

The New York Islanders announced Thursday that forward Pierre Engavll underwent hip surgery in the offseason and will miss the next two to three weeks.

The 29-year-old is coming off a 2024-25 campaign that saw him score eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 62 regular-season games with the Islanders. He also spent some time with their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders, recording one goal in six games.
Through six NHL seasons, Engvall, a native of Ljungby, Sweden, has 65 goals and 70 assists for 135 points in 380 career regular-season games with the Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was traded to the Maple Leafs in February 2023 in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick.
His best offensive season came with the Maple Leafs in 2021-22, posting career highs in all categories with 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 78 regular-season games.
Engvall has also appeared in 28 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording two goals and six assists for eight points.
Before becoming a full-time NHLer, Engvall spent parts of three seasons in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies, helping them win a Calder Cup championship in 2018. The following season, he recorded 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points in 70 regular-season AHL games.
Taken by the Maple Leafs in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Engvall spent four seasons in Sweden’s domestic system, posting strong numbers with Mora IK in the country’s second division, HockeyAllsvenskan. In 2017-18, he scored seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 31 games with HV71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elite League, the nation’s top league.
