Islanders sign Logan Stanley to one-year contract
A big presence is heading to Long Island.
On Sunday, the New York Islanders announced that the team has signed defenseman Logan Stanley to a one-year contract. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the deal will carry a cap hit of $1.5 million for the 2026-27 season.
Stanley comes to Islanders after joining playing with the Buffalo Sabres to end the 2025-26 season. He was dealt to the Sabres ahead of the trade deadline from the Winnipeg Jets. He added size and toughness to a surprising Buffalo team that quickly became a contender to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 6-foot-7 blueliner registered five assists in 17 regular-season games, as the Sabres clinched their first Stanley Cup Playoff appearance in 15 years, winning the Atlantic Division championship in the process. Stanley didn’t post a point in eight appearances, as Buffalo made it to the second round before being eliminated by the Montreal Canadiens.
In 76 regular-season contests, Stanley totaled nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points. He also registed a plus/minus of +3 while averaging over 15 minutes of ice time per game.
With Stanley in tow, the Isles will be a little bit stronger on the back end. While they have talented offensive threats such as Tony DeAngelo and reigning Calder Trophy winner Matthew Schaefer, they could use some more stay-at-home defenders in their arsenal, a trait Stanley brings to the fold.
in 278 career regular-season contests in the NHL, which included parts of six seasons in Winnipeg, Stanley has notched 14 goals and 48 assists for 26 points, with another four points in 25 postseason games.
One downside to Stanley signing so late is that he won’t have any chance to see game action prior to jumping into the 2026-27 regular season. The Isles have already played their four preseason contests, and are set to open the new campaign on Sept. 30 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
