— New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) July 6, 2025Gatcomb is coming off his first-ever NHL contract, a one-year, two-way contract that carried a cap hit of $775,000. The Woburn, Massachusetts native is an undrafted center who earned his way into the pro ranks after grinding it out for four years at the University of Connecticut.
He started off by signing a couple of American Hockey League contracts with the Abbotsford Canucks, the Vancouver Cancks primary affiliate. After two whole seasons playing in both Abbotsford and for the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, Gatcomb found his way onto the radar of former Isles general manager Lou Lamoriello.
In his first season with the organization, Gatcomb made his NHL debut on Jan. 14 against the Ottawa Senators, scoring his first goal with the Isles a little over two weeks later against the Philadelphia Flyers. The 25-year-old ended up playing 39 games with the big club, notching eight goals and an assist for nine points. He registered a plus/minus of -4 while averaging 9:47 of ice time per game.
Gatcomb also appeared in 35 games for the Islanders’ AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders, posting nine goals and eight assists for 17 points. He’s not a noted scoring threat, having only posted 20 points once, that coming during the 2023-24 campaign in Abbotsford. Yet, he’s proven he can be a reliable depth piece for whoever he plays for.
In 147 AHL regular-season games, Gatcomb has scored 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points, including two goals in 12 Calder Cup Playoff contests.
According to CapWages, the Islanders are projected to have a little over $4.8 million in cap space next season.
