Rangers sign Dylan Garand to two-year contract extension

The New York Rangers have signed goaltender Dylan Garand to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Sunday afternoon.
Garand, 24, appeared in three games with the Rangers during the 2025-26 regular season, posting a 2-0-1 record and a .948 save percentage. The 6’1″ goaltender also played in 36 games with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, going 16-15-2 with one shutout and an .896 save percentage.
According to PuckPedia, Garand’s new contract with the Rangers carries an $875,000 NHL cap hit. He’ll be paid a $400,000 salary for the time he spends in the AHL during the 2026-27 season; the following year, it transitions to a one-way contract, meaning he’ll be paid the same in the AHL and NHL.
Garand made his NHL debut with the Rangers against the Winnipeg Jets on Mar. 22, stopping 35 of 37 shots he faced in a 3-2 overtime loss at Madison Square Garden. He picked up his first win five days later, allowing one goal on 29 shots in a 6-1 home victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

A fourth-round pick (No. 103 overall) of the Rangers in the 2020 NHL Draft, Garand played his junior career with the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers before turning pro with the Wolf Pack in the 2022-23 season.
The Victoria, B.C. product also played for Team Canada at both the 2020 and 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships, posting a perfect 6-0-0 record as Canada’s starter in the second tournament. He won a gold medal as Canada’s backup in 2020 and silver as the starter in 2021.
In 148 games across parts of five AHL seasons with the Wolf Pack, Garand has posted a 65-57-19 record, nine shutouts, and a .901 save percentage; he’s also gone 10-7 with two shutouts and a .917 save percentage in 17 playoff contests.
Garand is now one of four Rangers goaltenders under contract for the 2026-27 season, along with Igor Shesterkin, Spencer Martin, and Callum Tung. Shesterkin is assured to return as the starter after another strong season, but the backup position is now wide-open after Jonathan Quick’s retirement, and Garand and Martin are expected to vie for that spot in training camp this September.
