New York Rangers fire president Jeff Davidson, GM Jeff Gorton, name Chris Drury as replacement for both

An absolutely jaw-dropping move from the New York Rangers Wednesday as the club fired both president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton hiring assistant GM Chris Drury as the replacement for both.
The move sent shockwaves around the NHL with many assuming it had to do with a scathing statement towards the league’s department of player safety, calling for George Parros’ job.
But multiple reports surfaced not long after that it didn’t have anything to do with it.
Sources say that #NYR president John Davidson and GM Jeff Gorton scurried to distance themselves from the team statement that was issued on Tuesday night, telling other executives that they did not know it was in the works until after it was released.

The Rangers have posted a 26-21-6 record in the East Division this year, but have fallen short of the playoffs despite posting a +25 goal differential in a tough division.
