The New York Rangers have activated forward J.T. Miller from injured reserve. With that, there’s a great chance he could make his return to the lineup on Thursday night when the team hosts the Buffalo Sabres.

Miller had been out of action for the past couple of weeks with an upper-body injury. He suffered the ailment back on Dec. 20 against the rival Philadelphia Flyers. He has missed the past seven games, including the Winter Classic last Friday. The Rangers have been mediocre with their captain on the shelf. While they came away with a 5-1 win over the Florida Panthers outdoors, New York went a measly 2-3-2 over that span, a trend that has plagued the team throughout the 2025-26 season.

The 32-year-old appeared in the first 35 games of the campaign, scoring 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points, good for sixth on the team. He’s a few points back of Artemi Panarin, who leads the bunch with 46 points.

Miller’s return is a positive sight for American fans, as Miller was named to the men’s Olympic roster last week, hoping to bring some offensive punch to a team that is favored to be in the medal conversation in Milan next month.

This is Miller’s first full season with the Rangers in his second stint with the team. He was dealt to the Blueshirts last season after his tumultuous saga with the Vancouver Canucks came to an end. He scored 35 points in the final 32 games of the season. In 906 NHL regular-season games, Miller has potted 270 goals and 461 assists for 731 points, with another 56 points in 91 playoff games.

The Rangers (20-18-6) are seventh in the Metropolitan Division, three points out of a Wild Card spot.
