Rangers place Jonathan Quick on injured reserve

A veteran backstop is going to be out of action for a little while longer.
On Tuesday, the New York Rangers placed goaltender Jonathan Quick on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
Jonathan Quick is on IR with a lower-body injury. He skated on his own. Will Borgen and J.T. Miller are skating in non-contact jerseys.
Juuso Pärssinen is not skating for roster management purposes, the team said.
Quick hasn’t been in the lineup since last Saturday when he allowed three goals on 37 shots in a loss to the Utah Mammoth. He didn’t dress for the team’s 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Monday night, but was seen skating by himself on Tuesday.
With Quick out of action, the Rangers called up netminder Dylan Garand from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. He might be with the team for a couple more games, as Quick cannot return to the lineup next Tuesday, when the Blueshirts take on the Dallas Stars.
While the Rangers have had a bumpy start to the 2025-26 season, the 39-year-old masked man has done his part in giving the team a chance to win. In six starts, Quick is 3-3-0 with a 1.69 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage. He posted a 23-save shutout against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 28, which was in the middle of a three-game win streak for the three-time Stanley Cup champion.
Though Igor Shesterkin is unquestionably the team’s No. 1 goaltender, Quick has proven to be a needed commodity in the Big Apple, giving numerous quality performances while the Russian star gets a night off.
In 57 games with the Rangers, the Connecticut native has a record of 32-16-4, with a 2.74 GGA, a .907 SVT, and six shutouts.
The Rangers (11-11-2) are scheduled to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.
