Rangers send Gabe Perreault to AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack

The New York Rangers have sent top prospect Gabe Perreault to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack to kick off the 2025-26 campaign.
Perreault is coming off an electric two-year NCAA career with Boston College. He scored 19 goals and 60 points as a freshman in 2023-24 before finishing with 48 points in 37 games last season. Perreault turned pro after BC missed out on the national title, skating in five games to close out the season. Perreault failed to register a point, but did have three shots in his NHL debut on April 2.
Prior to his college career, Perreault scored 53 goals and 132 points in 2022-23 with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. That marked the best production ever recorded for the USNTDP, thriving alongside linemates Will Smith and Ryan Leonard. The three reunited at Boston College in 2023-24, shortly after all three went in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
At 20 years old, Perreault is still quite young. He’s an offensive forward who loves to have the puck on his stick, and he has continued to improve his skating since getting selected 23rd overall two years ago. The son of former NHLer Yanic Perreault, Gabe will have an opportunity to play heavy minutes in Hartford and find his mojo in an attempt to earn a call-up at some point in 2025-26. The Rangers didn’t have a spot for him in the top six, so going to the AHL will allow Perreault to maximize his opportunities and confidence in his first year of pro hockey.
The Rangers will play their final preseason game on Saturday against the Boston Bruins before opening the regular season at home on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
