Rangers sign Luke Glendening to PTO

A veteran center is getting another shot to play in the NHL.
On Monday, the New York Rangers announced that the team has signed forward Luke Glendening to a professional tryout agreement.
Under the agreement, which is limited to just 10 days, Glendening can’t play in any regular-season games for the Blueshirts, but can practice and train with the team.
This is the second time in just over a month that Glendening is attempting to crack a roster. He attended the Tampa Bay Lightning‘s training camp earlier this fall on a PTO, but failed to earn a new contract.
That’s certainly unlike what happened during the 2025-26 season. The 37-year-old signed a PTO with the New Jersey Devils ahead of the preseason before signing a one-year, $775,000 contract. The East Grand Rapids, Mich. native wasn’t with the Devils for the entire season. Just before the trade deadline, the veteran center was placed on waivers and was claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers.
Glendening found a little bit of production with his new team, scoring two goals and five points in 18 regular-season games as the Flyers finished third in the Metropolitan Division, clinching a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in six years. The University of Michigan product scored one goal in 10 postseason contests as Philadelphia reached the second round before falling to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.
In 70 overall games last year, Glendening scored two goals and seven assists for nine points.
In 934 regular-season NHL games, including stints with the Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars, Glendening has posted 85 goals and 90 assists for 175 points, plus 11 points in 60 playoff contests.
