The New York Rangers unveiled their centennial sweater on Thursday, commemorating their 100th season.

The sweater comes in light blue, a contrast from the traditional royal blue the team has featured for decades. It also has the traditional diagonal R-A-N-G-E-R-S with white font on the front, as well as the team’s centennial patch on one of the shoulders. On the other shoulder is the team’s first-ever jersey partner, GAME 7, which former Rangers’ captain Mark Messier co-founded.

On Monday, the team announced a number of theme nights to celebrate their 100th anniversary, including major milestones and moments, acknowledging the different eras of the club, the rebirth of Madison Square Garden and fan favorites.

“Wearing the Rangers uniform is an honor and privilege unlike any other in the National Hockey League, and that is because of the legacy that has been created here over 100 years,” Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury said in a press release. “We all can’t wait to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime season.”

The Rangers first joined the NHL in 1926-27 when the league added three teams, including the Chicago Black Hawks and Detroit Cougars, and became one of the league’s Original Six franchises before expansion in 1967. They won the Stanley Cup in just their second season, becoming the first American franchise to do so. They won two more championships in 1933 and 1940 before a 54-year drought broken in 1994, led by Messier.

Hockey Hall of Fame forward Rod Gilbert, who spent 18 seasons with the club between 1960-61 and 1977-78, leads the franchise in goals (406) and points (1,021). Defenseman Brian Leetch, also a Hall of Famer, is the all-time assist leader with 741. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, played 15 seasons with the team, finishing with 459 wins, a .918 save percentage and 2.43 goals against average, all franchise records.
