A trio of fines has been levied by the NHL. On Saturday, Jordan Staal was the first to receive one.

He was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for what the league calls a dangerous trip on Nashville Predators forward Luke Kunin in Friday’s game. Staal was assessed a minor penalty on the play.

Not long after, Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha was fined an equal amount for goaltender interference on Boston Bruins goalie Tukka Rask in Friday’s game. He was also handed a penalty on the play for goaltender interference.

And on Sunday, Montreal Canadiens defenceman Shea Weber was fined $5,000 for cross checking Toronto Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmons in Saturday night’s game. He wasn’t assessed a penalty, and the incident occurred at the 10:07 mark of the second period.
