NHL to host first ‘Stanley Pup’ rescue dog competition

NHL to host first ‘Stanley Pup’ rescue dog competition

The Stanley Cup is all anyone can talk about these days. But does it even compare to the ‘Stanley Pup?’

On Wednesday, the National Hockey League announced they will host the first-ever ‘Stanley Pup’ rescue dog competition, along with the nonprofit organization ‘Petco Love’.

The competition will feature 32 adorable and adoptable pups, representing all 32 NHL teams, and will include friendly competition ‘showcasing their adorable canine skills’. All dogs will be available for adoption in their team’s home city.

“I’m so proud to launch this canine sporting spectacular with the NHL, and so grateful for their passion in supporting adoption. The show is sure to be the biggest night of the year for dog-loving hockey fans,” said producer and animal advocate Michael Levitt. “The cuteness overload is going to be off the charts! I can’t wait to show viewers how special rescue dogs are and how profoundly they enhance our lives when we welcome them into our families.”

Levitt has put on many rescue-themed projects such as the ‘American Rescue Dog Show’, ‘Fox’s Cause for Paws’ and the ‘All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration.’

Sponsors of the ‘Stanley Pup’ include Petco Love, Honda, BOBS from Skechers and BISSELL.

“We are honored that the NHL will spotlight these all-star pups,” said Petco Love President Susanne Kogut. “Everyone can be a champion in the life of a pet. When you adopt a pet from your local shelter, everyone wins!”

The show will also feature special appearances from known dog lovers Kristin Chenoweth, Mickey Guyton and Miranda Lambert.

The ‘Stanley Pup’ will be broadcast on NHL Network, Sportsnet and ESPN+ on Friday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET.

So far, we have confirmation of pups Nathan McKibble, Joe Pawvelski and Alexander O-fetch-kin competing. Who are you rooting for?
