The Ottawa Senators are bringing in some depth up front, as they’ve acquired winger Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings, as first reported by TSN insider Darren Dreger.

Frank Seravalli first reported that the Kings would get a draft pick in return for Foegele, with the two teams also swapping draft picks. Senators reporter Bruce Garrioch then confirmed that the main draft pick going to L.A. was a second-round pick. The Fourth Period insider David Pagnotta was first on confirming the details regarding the picks, clarifying the second-round pick was the Buffalo Sabres‘ in 2026, and both teams would be swapping conditional third-round picks. The conditions for either third-round pick are not yet confirmed.

Foegele was definitely a possibility to be moved, as he was considered to be a name to keep an eye on in Daily Faceoff’s trade board, and was also an option as a cap dump for the Kings.

For the Kings, the trade gives them more salary-cap space to improve elsewhere in the lineup, as they are going all-in on making the playoffs in captain Anze Kopitar’s final season. Los Angeles has already acquired the big fish on the trade market in Artemi Panarin, but now need to add on offense again after Kevin Fiala sustained an injury during the 2026 Winter Olympics which will keep him out of the lineup until at least the end of the regular season. The trade also gives them another asset to use to acquire players.

For the Senators, they get some forward depth in Foegele, and a solid one at that, as Foegele is a strong two-way player with finishing ability and can kill penalties, all in relatively tough minutes.

However, he’s seen his offense and finishing ability take a step back this season, as he has just seven goals and two assists for nine points in 47 games this season, the worst scoring pace of his career. It’s something Ottawa will hope can return to his game over the course of this and next season while he’s signed to a $3.5 million cap hit.

Regardless, Foegele’s still a strong defensive forward, as his -0.139 5v5 regularized adjusted plus-minus expected goals against per 60 (via Evolving Hockey) ranks 33rd among forwards this season.
