Which coach or general manager has the hottest seat right now?

The first firing of a general manager or head coach in 2025-26 happened Monday when the Buffalo Sabres relieved Kevyn Adams of his duties, replacing him with assistant GM Jarmo Kekalainen.
While the news didn’t come as a surprise to most who have followed the Sabres through the years, the fact that the first firing of a coach or GM of the season didn’t take place until mid-December was a surprise. As we approach the end of the 2025 calendar year, some are wondering which team will make a move next.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss who they think now has the hottest seat after Monday’s news.
Tyler Yaremchuk: It’s kind of weird that we got a GM change before we got a coaching change, considering how quick teams have been to pull the trigger on coach firings over the last couple seasons. For today’s fill in the blank: The coach or GM whose seat is the hottest right now that Kevyn Adams is gone is _______.
Carter Hutton: For me, it’s Craig Berube. I just think that the demand as a head coach in that market — I know there’s been change — but I feel like he’s not really getting through to these guys. I love Berube, but his old school mentality is wearing thin on these Toronto Maple Leaf players who want to be superstars.
For GM, I think Barry Trotz. As a first time GM, he’s a guy who is on the hot seat. He’s a legend and I love him, but it doesn’t mean you can be a GM. Being a head coach and successful and winning a Stanley Cup is one thing, but being a GM is a totally different animal. After that big free agency, what are these Nashville Predators doing?
