Senators acquire Fabian Zetterlund from Sharks in deal for Zack Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor and second-rounder

The Ottawa Senators acquired forward Fabian Zetterlund, Tristen Robins and a fourth-round-pick from the San Jose Sharks for Zack Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor and a second-round pick.

Zetterlund, 25, has 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 64 games with the Sharks this season. Now in his fourth full NHL season, Zetterlund, taken by the New Jersey Devils in the third round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, has 50 goals and 61 assists for 111 points in 227 career NHL games.
As for Ostapchuk, the 21-year-old forward has a goal and three assists for four points in 43 games with the Senators this season. Taken in the second round by the Sens in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Ostapchuk also has two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 15 games with the AHL’s Belleville Senators.
Meanwhile, Gregor, 26, has four goals and two assists for six points in 40 games this season. In 281 career games with the Sens, Toronto Maple Leafs and Sharks, whom he previously played with, Gregor has 36 goals and 33 assists for 69 points.
The Senators are 31-25-5 with 67 points, fourth in the Atlantic Division and currently holding on to the No. 2 Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa hasn’t made the playoffs since 2016-17, when they lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
Tim Stutzle leads the team in points with 64, scoring 20 goals and adding 44 assists. Right behind him is Drake Batherson, who has 49 points through 16 goals and 33 assists. Captain Brady Tkachuk has 24 goals and 23 assists for 47 points.
