Ottawa Senators goaltender Matt Murray clears waivers

Some good news for the Senators franchise Sunday as goaltender Matt Murray cleared waivers. He has since been assigned to the Belleville Senators of the AHL.
The move to place Murray on waivers came after some big struggles from the goalie over his two years in Ottawa.
In the 33 games he’s played in Ottawa, he’s posted a 10-18-1 record, a .892 save percentage and allowed 3.35 goals-against average. He’s been unable to make the stops that are needed and to start this season, he’s gone 0-5 in the six games he’s played.
As I penned yesterday, I think it was a mistake to waive Murray in the first place. The message it sends to the player and others in the organization is that the Senators are unwilling to work through issues players have at the NHL level. Given that Murray is still just 27-years-old and the Senators have no strong goaltending prospects, Murray is clearly the best and most seasoned goalie in the organization.
Nonetheless, Murray will look to get his game back at the AHL level.
