Senators’ Jake Sanderson out week-to-week with upper-body injury

Some tough news on the back end in the nation’s capital.
When speaking to the media on Monday, Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green stated that defenseman Jake Sanderson is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Sanderson suffered the injury this past Saturday night against the Seattle Kraken. In the second period, the 23-year-old blueliner was delivered a crushing body check from Kraken defender Brandon Montour. Sanderson left the ice and immediately started walking down the tunnel to the Sens’ dressing room, holding his right shoulder.
He didn’t come out for the third period.

Sanderson registered just 12:52 of ice time across 18 shifts, posting three shots on goal and a plus/minus of +1 in Ottawa’s 7-4 victory.
With Sanderson out for the next little while, expect to see more Tyler Kleven on the second pair, as Ottawa continues to fight for a playoff spot. Sanderson will be out for some tough games, as seven of the Senators’ next 10 opponents are either in a playoff spot or just one point out.
The Whitefish, Mont. native had appeared in every game so far this season for the Senators, and has been a key part in helping the team stay afloat in the race for a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. In 62 games, Sanderson has scored 11 goals and 48 points, sitting third on the team in scoring while leading Ottawa with 37 assists.
The Senators (31-22-9) are currently sixth in the Atlantic Division, five points back of the Boston Bruins for the last Wild Card position in the East. Ottawa is set to wrap up its road trip on Monday night against the Vancouver Canucks.
