“We won’t see him the rest of this road trip for sure,” Green said.
Green’s initial diagnosis means that Eller will miss Saturday afternoon’s matchup against the Minnesota Wild, as well as Monday night’s all-Canadian clash with the Winnipeg Jets. The Senators don’t return home until next Thursday, when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Eller was injured during the Senators’ game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night, blocking a shot in a 6-3 victory. His last shift came early in the third period. He ended up registering 7:21 of ice time across 11 shifts.
The 36-year-old had just come back earlier in the week from an undisclosed ailment that kept him out of action for a week, missing Ottawa’s losses to the New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues last week. Those were the first two games Eller has missed all season.
In 28 appearances thus far, he has scored two goals and four assists for six points. However, the Danish center hasn’t notched a point since scoring a goal and an assist agaisnt the Calgary Flames on Oct. 30.
Eller came to Ottawa this past summer, signing a one-year contract that carries a cap hit of $1.25 million for the 2025-26 campaign.
The Senators (14-12-4) sit seventh in the Atlantic Division, three points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
