Ottawa Senators sign Tim Stützle to eight-year extension
The Ottawa Senators are locking up young star Tim Stützle to an eight-year deal, Senators GM Pierre Dorion said Wednesday.
The deal carries an AAV of $8.35 million and will kick in during the 2023-24 season.

Chosen by the Senators third overall in the 2020 draft, Stützle has been a dynamic force in his first NHL campaigns. Across two seasons, Stützle has appeared in 132 games scoring 34 goals and 87 points. This past season was a breakout year for him. He had 22 goals and 58 points in 79 games.
The young German has quickly become a fan favorite in the Ottawa market and rightly so. Now, the team gets another young star to commit to a long-term contract almost two months after Josh Norris inked a eight-year pact.
Stutlze is a menace on the power play, providing seven percent more offense than league average, according to HockeyViz.com. His offensive game at even strength comes in four percent below league average all the while having an above average shot. Defensively, he contributed at a three percent rate above league average.
On top of it all, the Senators took a big step forward this offseason by building a better supporting cast bringing in Alex DeBrincat, Claude Giroux, Connor Brown and Cam Talbot.
Stützle’s new deal has a chance to become a tremendous value in short order.
