The Ottawa Senators have traded Zach Sanford to the Winnipeg Jets for a fifth round draft pick.

The winger ranked 36th on Frank Seravalli’s Trade Targets list. He’s currently on a one year, $2 million contract that he originally signed with the St. Louis Blues, but was traded to the Senators in September for Logan Brown and a fourth round pick.

He has nine goals and 17 points in 62 games in what’s mostly been a fourth line role for Sanford. He’s been more productive in the past though, including a 16 goal, 30 point season with the Blues in 2019-20. That said, he is better known for his defensive play.

Sanford joins a Jets team currently on the outside looking in, as they sit sixth in the Central Division, and are four points back of the second wild card spot with a game in hand. They’ve currently won three of their last four games.

This is one of a few trades the Jets have made in the last 24 hours, as they recently brought back Mason Appleton from the Seattle Kraken, sent Nathan Beaulieu to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and sent Bryan Little’s contract to the Arizona Coyotes.
