The Florida Panthers announced Tuesday the club and Head Coach Paul Maurice agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension.

Further details of the extension were not revealed.

In a press release announcing the news, Panthers’ President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Bill Zito said Maurice led the team “to unprecedented success during his relatively short tenure in South Florida.”

“He is a superb communicator and leader for our staff and players, possessing a keen strategic mind for the game. We are excited for Paul and his staff to continue to keep the Florida Panthers as a destination franchise for the foreseeable future,” Zito said.

The 57-year-old Maurice is in his third season as Panthers’ head coach. He has compiled a 98-58-15 regular-season record, with a 29-16 postseason record, including 16 last spring to help the club win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

During Maurice’s tenure with Florida, he’s taken them to two Stanley Cup Finals and has won an Atlantic Division title.

Maurice has coached the second-most regular season games in NHL history, totaling 1,855, second only to Scotty Bowman’s 2,141. His 873 career wins is fourth all-time.

Before joining the Panthers, Maurice had coached several NHL clubs, including the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes and Hartford Whalers. He helped the Hurricanes reached the 2002 Stanley Cup Final, losing to the Detroit Red Wings in five games. He’s also reached the conference finals numerous times with the Hurricanes and Jets.

Going into Tuesday night, the Panthers are 4-2-1 through their first seven games of the 2024-25 season. Sam Reinhart, fresh off a career-high 57-goal campaign last season, leads the team with five goals and seven assists for 12 points.
