The Philadelphia Flyers have claimed forward Lukas Sedlak off waivers from the Colorado Avalanche, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Wednesday.

Sedlak, 29, failed to record a point while averaging 7:42 in three games with the Avalanche to start the 2022–23 regular season.

Back in June, the Avalanche signed Sedlak to a one-year contract worth $800,000. He’ll be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next July.

The Columbus Blue Jackets originally selected Sedlak — a 6′, 205-pound forward from Ceske Budejovice, Czechia — in the sixth round (No. 158 overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Sedlak made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets in the 2016–17 regular season, ultimately scoring seven goals and 13 points in 62 games. He did not score in two games with Columbus during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After scoring just 16 points in 100 games with the Blue Jackets over the next two seasons, Sedlak joined Traktor Chelyabinsk of the Kontinental Hockey League for the 2019–20 campaign.

Sedlak spent the next three seasons with Traktor and emerged as one of the club’s top players, topping the team’s scoring leaderboard in both 2020 and 2022 and finishing second to Tomas Hyka in 2021.

In 164 games with Traktor over three KHL regular seasons, Sedlak scored 57 goals and 121 points. He recorded three goals and six points in 10 playoff games with Traktor in 2022.

The news of the Flyers claiming Sedlak comes just days after the club placed forward Owen Tippett on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. At 3–0–0, the Flyers are one of just five remaining undefeated NHL teams.
