The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that defenseman Oliver Bonk is day-to-day with an upper-body injury on Thursday.

The details surrounding the injury are very slim, as we don’t know what caused the injury, when it occurred, or what the injury even is. While the severity of the injury and the timeline for return aren’t fully known either, the given timeline indicates that it’s just a minor injury that will heal relatively quickly.

The Flyers began their training camp on Thursday, so this would be the first day that Bonk’s injury has to be officially reported to explain any absence from training camp. Considering that it doesn’t appear to be a severe one, it also likely means it occurred recently.

The 2023 22nd-overall pick enters training camp looking to make the Flyers team, so hopefully the injury won’t be a major setback in doing so. This will be his first professional season, as at 20-years-old, he is no longer eligible for the Ontario Hockey League, and will either play with the Flyers or spend the season in the American Hockey League with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Bonk is coming off a 2024-25 campaign with the London Knights that was a slight step back from his previous season, as he had 11 goals and 29 assists for 40 points in 52 games after putting up 67 points in 60 games in 2023-24.

Bonk did see some improvement in the playoffs, where he had two goals and 12 assists for 14 points in 17 games on route to the Knights’ second consecutive J. Ross Robertson Cup win. He then had two assists in five games in the Memorial Cup, where the Knights won after losing in the finals last season.

The Flyers will look to kick off their preseason when they visit the New York Islanders on Sunday at 7 p.m. EST.
