Flyers’ Rasmus Ristolainen to miss 1-2 months recovering from triceps injury

Some key injury news for the Philadelphia Flyers heading into training camp.
When speaking to the media on Tuesday, Flyers general manager Danny Briere announced that defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen could be out for the first month, or more, of the regular season while recovering from a ruptured right triceps tendon.
Some Flyers injury updates from GM Daniel Briere:
*Rasmus Ristolainen could miss first 1-2 months of season recovering from ruptured right triceps tendon
*Forward Tyson Foerster (elbow) will open training camp in non-contact jersey but hope is he can ditch that in about a week
Ristolainen underwent surgery to repair the ailment in late April, with the initial timeline stating that he would be out for six months.
The injury led to the Swedish blueliner missing the final 16 games of the 2024-25 season. It wasn’t the first time he missed time due to an upper-body injury, as he also missed three games in February.
Though he played in just 63 games, Ristolainen managed to score four goals and 15 assists for 19 points while averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game. He ranked fourth on the team in average TOI. The 30-year-old is heading into the fourth season of his five-year contract that he originally signed in March 2022. The deal carries a cap hit of $5.1 million through the 2026-27 campaign.
In other injury news, forward Tyson Foerster will start training camp in a non-contact jersey, though the team is hopeful he can get rid of that before jumping into the preseason lineup. Foerster, who signed a two-year bridge contract with an AAV of $3.75 million, is also recovering from surgery. An elbow injury suffered during the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship later got infected, requiring an operation to repair the Alliston, Ont. native.
Briere also mentioned that forward Jett Luchanko, who had been suffering from a lower-body injury, skated in a scrimmage prior to camp and will be with the rest of the NHL squad on Thursday. Prospect Oliver Bonk’s status for the start of camp is unknown. He had imaging done on Tuesday for an upper-body injury that held him out of the rookie games against the New York Rangers.
