The Philadelphia Flyers saw their season come to an end on Saturday with a four-game sweep at the hands of the top-seeded Carolina Hurricanes.

In the days since, the team held its locker cleanout day, where the players shed some light on the injuries they were playing through. On Thursday, the Flyers provided a detailed update on the injury situations for their roster.

While every team has players fighting through ailments at this time of year, things were particularly rough for Philadelphia, which had updates to share on the following 10 players:

  • Emil Andrae, D – Fractured wrist, requires surgery
  • Noah Cates, F – Fractured foot, no surgery required
  • Alex Bump, F – MCL sprain
  • Christian Dvorak, C – Fractured rib, separated shoulder
  • Nikita Grebenkin, F – Upper-body injury
  • Garnet Hathaway, F – Fractured fibula
  • Travis Konecny, RW – Fractured rib, nasal fracture
  • Owen Tippett, F – Internal bleeding, core muscle injury
  • Cam York, D – Fractured rib
  • Trevor Zegras, F – Elbow ligament sprain

Tippett’s condition was already known, as he released a statement through the team earlier in the week to provide clarity as to why he missed the entire series after playing through the first round against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Flyers ousted their in-state rivals in a six-game first round series before running into a juggernaut of a Hurricanes squad that would have been a daunting task even with a fully healthy roster. Without Tippett’s speed and skill, and with several other key players hampered, it’s no wonder Philadelphia found itself swept.

There are still plenty of positives for general manager Daniel Briere, head coach Rick Tocchet and the reset of the organization to take into next season, though. The Flyers were one of the best teams in the NHL down the stretch to dig themselves out of a hole toe even make the playoffs in the first place, and a young core with a roster set to return the vast majority of its key pieces could be a force to be reckoned with next season.
