Not the best news regarding one of the masked men on Broad Street.

On Thursday, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere announced that goaltender Samuel Ersson has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. In response, the team has called up goaltender Alexei Kolosov from the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Briere mentioned that Ersson will be out for one week, which would fit the parameters of the NHL’s IR rules.

According to head coach Rick Tocchet, Ersson “tweaked” something while warming up on Wednesday, which led to him missing the team’s practice. He was initially listed as day-to-day. It has yet to be reported what exactly is ailing Ersson, or specifically, how he sustained the injury.

Ersson played on Tuesday night against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins. He stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced, including two of the three attempts he faced in the shootout, to help Philadelphia grab a 3-2 win. It was the team’s fourth victory in its last five games.

Due to the league’s IR rules, Ersson must remain out of the lineup for at least seven days, meaning the earliest he could return would be next Thursday, when the Flyers visit the Nashville Predators. In the meantime, Philly will turn to Dan Vladar, who has been solid this season, as its No. 1 netminder. In five starts, he’s 3-2-0, with a 1.81 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. There might be an opportunity for Kolosov to get some action this weekend, as the Flyers will have a back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday, hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames on consecutive nights.

In four starts this season, Ersson has a record of  2-1-1, with a 3.08 GAA and a .876 SV%. He gave up four goals in each of his first two starts this season, including giving up four on 18 shots in a loss to the Winnipeg Jets almost two weeks ago.

Kolosov appeared in 17 games with the Flyers last season, going 5-9-1 with a 3.59 GAA and a .867 SV%. In five games with the Phantoms this year, he’s 3-2-0 with a 2.60 GAA, a .918 SV% and one shutout.

The Flyers (5-3-1) host the Predators on Thursday night.
