— Daily Faceoff – Fantasy (@DFOFantasy) January 21, 2025The 30-year-old was recently fined by the National Hockey League for $5,000 for cross-checking New York Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov. The incident stemmed from a play earlier in the game when Tsyplakov delivered a high hit on Flyers’ Ryan Poehling. The Philadelphia forward would end up leaving the game.
Laughton is a former first-round pick of Philadelphia in the 2012 NHL Draft. Now in his 12th NHL season, the Oakville, Ontario native has 104 goals and 157 assists for 261 points in 647 career regular-season games.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia announced that Rodrigo Abols will make his NHL debut tonight versus Detroit. The Latvian native was recalled from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL) when the Flyers placed Poehling on the injured reserve.
Abols has registered nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points to sit fourth in team scoring. A seventh-round selection by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2016 NHL Draft, Abols signed a one-year, two-way agreement with the Flyers this past offseason after spending the prior four campaigns competing in Sweden.
On the season, the Flyers sit 21-20-6 and three points back of the Metropolitan Division rival Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wildcard position in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers are slated to face the New York Rangers on Thursday and the New York Islanders on Friday in double-header action.
