Flyers select Shane Vansaghi No. 48 overall in 2025 NHL Draft

The Philadelphia Flyers have selected right winger Shane Vansaghi with the 48th overall selection of the 2025 NHL Draft on Saturday at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
Vansaghi was projected to be selected 32nd overall on average across all of the main draft rankings, going as high as 21st and as low as 51st. He was also ranked 33rd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis had him as the 33rd-ranked prospect.
Ellis had this to say about Vansaghi in his most recent draft rankings:
“Vansaghi has exactly what you’re looking for from a bottom-six forward: he hits hard, brings energy, and never gives up on a play. We saw him bounce all throughout the MSU lineup this year, and he has always found ways to produce. I think Vansaghi will be an attractive option for an NHL team looking to toughen up their lineup – he already possesses many pro traits. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vansaghi was one of the first players in this draft to become a full-time NHLer.“
Vansaghi spent the entirety of his 2024-25 season with Michigan State University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, where he had six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 37 games played with the Spartans. That production was only good enough for 11th on the team in scoring, but five of those players are already drafted players, highlighted by Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Isaac Howard. Vansaghi he was the highest-scoring player on the team under the age of 19.
Michigan State finished the season atop the Big Ten Conference with a 15-5-4 conference record, and had a 26-7-4 record overall. They were ranked second by Pairwise, and first by USCHO.com. However, they did not go far in the playoffs, as they lost to Cornell in the quarterfinal game by a score of 4-3. Vansaghi did not play in the loss.
