The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that winger Tyson Foerster will miss the next two-to-three months due to an upper-body injury.

Foerster sustained the injury early in the second period of Monday’s 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He got hurt while taking a one-timer on a 5-on-3 for the Flyers, and he looked to be in extreme discomfort after the play, clutching his arm on the way to the bench. He went down the tunnel immediately, and then the Flyers confirmed his departure as the second period was ending.

The injury came right after Foerster had scored on a different 5-on-3 power play for the Flyers to tie the game at 1-1. He finished the game with the goal, two shots and a takeaway in 8:50 of ice time in the loss.

Foerster has had an excellent start to the season, with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points in 21 games. He was on pace for 37 goals and 48 points this season before the injury, both which would have been career highs for the Alliston, Ontario product, surpassing his previous best of 25 and 43 set in 2024-25.

At this point in time, there’s no indication as to who will replace Foerster in the lineup. Nicolas Deslauriers was the Flyers lone forward healthy scratch and will likely slot into the lineup in Foerster’s place. Deslauriers has had a quiet start to the season and has been in and out of the lineup, as he has no points in just 11 games so far.

The same goes for who will replace Foerster on his line alongside Noah Cates and Travis Konecny. Matvei Michkov got the most ice time with the two after Foerster had left, but even then, it was only 2:10. The Flyers also have three relatively even lines in their top nine, so it’s possible they jumble the lines a bit and go for a more official top six.

The Flyers will look to bounce back from their loss to the Penguins when they host the Buffalo Sabres in the second game of a six-game homestand on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. EST. Philadelphia is currently fifth in the Metropolitan Division with a 14-8-3 record, good enough for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
