The Pittsburgh Penguins added some offensive depth Sunday night acquiring Jeff Carter from the Los Angeles Kings.

Carter, 36, has one year remaining on his contract after this season and carries a cap hit of $5.72-million and the Kings will retain 50% of the remaining salary.

In exchange, the Kings will receive a conditional third round pick in 2022 and a conditional fourth round pick in 2023. The details of the conditions were not immediately known.

The veteran of over 1000 games has appeared in 40 for the Kings this year, scoring eight goals and 19 points. Carter’s underlying numbers are solid. According to hockeyviz.com, at even-strength he provides league average offence and defence at a one percent rate worse than league average.

He brings with him cup pedigree, too, winning Lord Stanley twice with the Kings in both 2011-12 and 2013-14.
