The Pittsburgh Penguins signed defenseman Declan Carlile to a two-year, $3-million contract that will pay him $1.5 million per season through 2027-28.

The first to report the deal was Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Carlile has also spent parts of five seasons in the American Hockey League, where he’s recorded 24 goals and 57 assists for 81 points and 146 penalty minutes in 211 regular-season games with the Syracuse Crunch, the Lightning’s AHL affiliate.

An undrafted free agent, Carlile spent three seasons playing college hockey with Merrimack College, where he scored 13 goals and added 43 assists for 56 points and 40 penalty minutes in 83 career NCAA games.

Earlier in the day, the Penguins acquired forward Nick Robertson from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2028 fourth-round pick. He finished the 2025-26 campaign with 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points, all career highs.

They also signed defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to a two-year contract with an annual average value of $4 million.

Last season, van Riemsdyk scored three goals and added 11 assists for 14 points, averaging 16:14 of ice time in 68 games with the Washington Capitals. The right-handed defender won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015.
