Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin fined for slashing Jets’ Logan Stanley

One of the game’s legends is shelling out some cash for his actions.
On Sunday, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has been fined $5,000 for slashing Winnipeg Jets defenseman Logan Stanley.
The incident happened late in the first period in the matchup between the two teams on Saturday night. The two players were battling behind the Jets’ net, and Malkin clearly felt that Stanley was being a little too rough. In a retaliatory motion, the Russian superstar two-handed Stanley on his left side.

— Gino Hard (@GinoHard_) November 1, 2025Malkin was handed a minor penalty on the play for slashing. The Jets would go on to win the game, 5-2, despite Malkin picking up his 15th assist of the season on Sidney Crosby’s goal.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
This is far from the first time Malkin has faced supplemental discipline in his 19-plus years in the NHL. Last November, he was fined $5,000 for slashing Boston Bruins blueliner Nikita Zadorov in a rather strange sequence.
He’s also been suspended a few times in his tenure with the Pens as well. In April 2022, Malkin was suspended for four games for cross-checking Nashville Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki. In 2019, he was handed a one-game suspension for a stick-swinging incident involving Michael Raffl of the Philadelphia Flyers. The Russian star has been suspended two other times for stick infractions.
After a rough end to the 2024-25 season, both for the player and the team, Malkin has begun the new campaign on a solid pace. Through 13 games, the 39-year-old has scored three goals and 15 assists for 18 points, and is leading Pittsburgh in scoring, just three points ahead of Crosby.
The Penguins (8-3-2) are set to visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.
