The Penguins continue to exceed expectations with statement win over Oilers

The Pittsburgh Penguins produced a statement win Thursday night over the Edmonton Oilers, winning 6-2 off the strength of three goals in a 37-second span in the first period on former Penguins netminder Tristan Jarry.
THREE GOALS IN 37 SECONDS!! 😱 The @penguins came ready to play!
The Penguins are now 25-14-11 with 61 points, which puts them second in the Metropolitan Division. While many considered this group a team that would likely be sellers by the NHL Trade Deadline, there’s reason to believe they will be looking to add by March.
On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss the Penguins’ victory and whether they’re a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.
Tyler Yaremchuk: At the 50-game mark, the Penguins are a team that, as we get closer and closer to the end of the season, and after seeing them dominate the way they did last night, made me view them in a different light.
Carter Hutton: We always say, “you judge your team by what they are at American Thanksgiving,” but we’re almost at the end of January and we still have a team that’s in the hunt in a division that’s been flipped upside down.
This win was against an Oilers team that’s been defending a lot better, and getting better goaltending. I think there was a lot of pride on the line for the Penguins. They’re playing on a back-to-back, but it’s Sidney Crosby vs. Connor McDavid, which I think has a bit of weight for this Pittsburgh team to show up for their captain.
Pittsburgh is more of a story in the East … we’re talking about a team that we thought would be a seller early on, and now they’re a potential team that’s seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with the playoffs.
