Penguins’ Kris Letang out day-to-day with lower-body injury

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without one of their top blueliners for at least the next few days.

Letang, 38, is pointless through the Penguins’ first three games, averaging 21:42 of ice time in that span. Last season, the Montreal native had nine goals and 21 assists for 30 points in 74 regular-season games.
Now in his 20th NHL season, Letang has 175 goals and 597 assists for 772 points in 1,164 career regular-season games. He has also played in 149 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he’s scored 23 goals and 67 assists for 90 points, helping the Penguins win three Stanley Cup championships in 2009, 2016 and 2017.

Letang, taken in the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, has hit the 50-point mark seven times in his career, as well as seven 40-assist campaigns. He is the Penguins’ all-time leader in goals, assists and points for a defenseman.
Before turning professional, Letang spent three seasons in the QMJHL with Val d’Or Foreurs. In 170 regular-season games, Leland scored 52 goals and 100 assists for 152 points. The right-handed defender broke the point-per-game mark twice, recording 68 just in 60 games in 2005-06, as well as 52 points in 40 games in 2006-07.
The Penguins went 34-36-12 with 80 points in 2024-25, finishing seventh in the Metropolitan Division and 13th in the Eastern Conference. They were 11 points back of the second Wild Card spot and missed the postseason for the third straight year.
Sidney Crosby led the team in assists and points, finishing with 33 goals and 58 assists for 91 points. Rickard Rakell led the team in goals with 35.
