Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby made yet even more NHL history on Sunday when he secured a point-per-game season in a one-goal, two-assist effort in the Penguins’ 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers.

By reaching the 70-point mark with his goal at 16:50 of the first period, Crosby can not fall below a point-per-game pace, as Pittsburgh only has four games left in its season.

That means that in each of Crosby’s 21 NHL seasons to this point, he’s achieved that feat in all of them, making him the first player in league history to have 21 point-per-game seasons

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft, Crosby has doubtlessly assembled one of the most decorated careers in the history of the sport, and this record only cements that further.

On Saturday, when the Penguins beat the Panthers by a 9-4 margin, Crosby surpassed Steve Yzerman for seventh on the NHL’s all-time points list.

The Nova Scotia native is now up to 1,759 career points in 1,418 career regular season games, and his totals would be even loftier if he hadn’t lost time throughout his career to the 2013 lockout and concussion issues that limited him to a combined 63 games between the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns.

Crosby has earned the Hart Trophy as league MVP on two occasions, the same amount as he has earned the Art Ross as the league’s leading point-getter.

After back-to-back wins over the two-time reigning Stanley Cup champions, who are now mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, the Penguins are now sitting pretty in terms of their chances to qualify for the field.

At 40-22-16, Pittsburgh sits seven points above the playoff cut line, and it is likely that they will soon clinch their first Stanley Cup Playoff berth since 2022.

In his postseason career, Crosby has 201 points in 180 games while leading the Penguins to Stanley Cup championships in 2009, 2016 and 2017, winning the Conn Smythe in each of those back-to-back championships.
