The Pittsburgh Penguins signed defenseman Isaac Belliveau to a three-year entry-level contract on Wednesday.

Belliveau was drafted 154th by the Penguins in 2021 and got into pre-season action with the Penguins earlier this season.

The fifth-year QMJHLer has 40 points in 44 games this year, the best offensive output of his career. Belliveau has 36 goals and 149 points in 211 games during his major junior tenure, good for second behind Vegas prospect Lukas Cormier in that span.

Belliveau, 20, has improved his overall game over the past two years, making him more valuable as an all-around blueliner. He’s still prone to making questionable puck-moving decisions, but that seems to be less of an issue this year compared to in the past.

The Penguins already have a few notable defensive prospects signed, including Owen Pickering and Ty Smith. The club has one of the weaker prospect pools, and Belliveau isn’t high on it. Still, it’s a decent asset to have in the system.
